Frontend Architecture Shift Yields Sub-2-Second Loads
GR8_TECH has published new research detailing a significant improvement in its sportsbook frontend performance, reporting an average load time of 1.72 seconds. The company states that the majority of industry frontends currently operate with load times between 3.4 and 5.8 seconds, a gap it claims has been closed by a complete architectural overhaul.
The performance gains stem from a migration from a Client-Side Rendering (CSR) approach to a Server-Side Rendering (SSR) architecture built on the Qwik framework. Dinos Doxiadis, Head of Sportsbook Business at GR8_TECH, said the internal team dubbed the upgrade “fastbook” to reflect the core objective of the project.
“It’s hugely important, especially in sportsbook, where players expect everything to happen instantly,” Doxiadis said. “At under 2 seconds, the experience feels immediate.”
Engineering Depth and Framework Choice
The company noted that the decision to adopt Qwik was driven by its performance potential. “We chose Qwik because it showed the strongest potential for performance,” Doxiadis said. He added that the firm has almost 500 engineers and has worked closely with Qwik’s core contributors to develop the solution.
The project involved testing technology throughout the development process to identify and resolve bottlenecks. Improvements were implemented across the entire stack, including frontend code, network handling, and caching mechanisms. The strategy focused on building performance into the architecture from the start rather than attempting to optimize a heavy product after construction.
“That trade-off doesn’t really have to exist anymore, as the key is building performance into the architecture rather than trying to make a heavy product faster afterward,” Doxiadis said. He emphasized that having the engineering depth to execute such a project was critical to its success.
Performance Metrics and User Experience
According to the research, the new platform achieved a Lighthouse score in the 90–95 range. Doxiadis indicated that competitors generally fall into the sub-75 Lighthouse score zone. The faster load times allow heavier elements such as odds, markets, bet slips, promotions, and live content to become interactive without causing page sluggishness.
“Faster load times remove small points of frustration that add up over a player’s journey,” Doxiadis said. He noted that critical user actions, such as sign-up and deposit, require players to stop and enter information, making responsiveness essential at these points.
The company reported that early data from brands that have already migrated to the new platform is positive. The product, referred to as GREAT_SPORTSBOOK, retains its depth of features while delivering the improved speed. The tech team continues to work on further improvements and user experience polishing.
Market Focus and SBC Summit Showcase
Doxiadis highlighted Africa as a market where the lighter, faster sportsbook makes a more significant difference due to varying network conditions. “One area I’m particularly excited about is Africa,” he said.
GR8_TECH is set to exhibit at SBC Summit later in the month. The company’s stand will feature the Champions Arena and Acceler8 Lab, showcasing a range of products including GREAT-WHITE LABEL, Managed Trading Services, GREAT_CRYPTO TURNKEY, GREAT_SPORTSBOOK, and GREAT_CASINO AGGREGATION. Doxiadis stated that attendees can expect to see a practical demonstration of the company’s technology at the event.
Why It Matters
For operators, this architectural shift directly impacts user retention and conversion rates by reducing friction during critical actions like registration and deposit. The significant gap in Lighthouse scores compared to competitors suggests a tangible competitive advantage in user experience. As sportsbooks increasingly rely on mobile and variable network conditions, particularly in emerging markets like Africa, sub-2-second load times become a functional necessity rather than a premium feature.
